Second Edition DJWM Very Successful

Friday October 5th and Saturday October 6th, the best of Dutch jazz and world music presented itself in inspiring showcase performances at the Amsterdam Conservatory, the Bimhuis and the Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ.

Showcase

It was the second edition of the largest b2b showcase and networking event in the Netherlands for jazz and world music professionals, attended by 200 internationally renowned delegates: festival directors, presenters, promoters, booking agencies and media representatives.

Two distinguished, independent programmers: Michelle Kuypers (North Sea Jazz, Mojo) and Wim Westerveld (Music Meeting, Chazz) selected 26 Dutch jazz and world acts, who presented themselves in short concerts to national and international music professionals and general public.

An informal opening night will took place on Thursday October 4th in the renowned jazz club Bimhuis.

Conference

Besides being a showcase festival, the 2012 Dutch Jazz & World Meeting is a conference.

NewYork Times jazz and pop critic Ben Ratliff opened the DJWM12 on Friday morning when he gave his Keynote Lecture on Jazz. The Keynote on World Music took place on Saturday morning by Lucy Durán, BBC presenter, prolific world music producer and Lecturer at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), Universityof London.

During the daytime Dutch and international professionals participated in panel discussions and meetings, visited concerts and the information markets. There were plenty of networking opportunities during the daytime and during the trade dinners in the evening.
